Electric
blankets should be thought of as energy savers because their best use
is keeping you warm in the winter so you can reduce your home's thermostat
setting. They are really pretty small energy users. Even a king-size blanket
uses only about 1 kWh per night, so in a whole heating season it might cost
$10 to operate. But for each degree you can set your thermostat back, you save
about 2 percent of your heating costs. If you have one, use it wisely, meaning
turn it off during the day and place another blanket on top of it to keep in
the heat. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions about covering it and
securing the corners to your mattress.
